Competitions: Broad Jump, Sit-Ups, 100m Dash, Push-Ups, Jump Rope, Three-Legged Race, and Obstacle Course.
How to do a Broad Jump: Stand with both feet together, swing your arms, and jump. We will record how far you landed by the heal of the foot closest to the starting line.
How to do a Sit Up: Lie on your back with your knees bent and you feet flat on the floor. Place your finger tips behind your ears. Pull your shoulder blades back so your elbows are out to the side. Brace your abs and then raise your body up towards your knees, shoulders should be lifted of the floor. You will be timed for 1 minute. After 1 minute we will record how many sit-ups you did.
How to do a 100yd Dash This activity will test your speed. We will place cones to outline the course. You simply start at the start line. When the volunteer says "Go" you will run the course. The timer will be stopped as soon as you reach the finish line. You will be timed. Those with the shortest time will win.
How to do a Push Up The Basics. Get into a high plank position. Place your hands firmly on the ground, directly under shoulders. Lower your body. Begin to lower your body—keeping your back flat and eyes focused about three feet in front of you to keep a neutral neck—until your chest grazes the floor. Push back up.
We will count how many push-ups you can do without stopping (or falling to the ground). Knees down will not count.
How to Jump Rope Hold the jump rope in front of you with your hands together and your elbows in close to you body. Practice a toe catch. Place the rope behind you and turn the jump rope over your head. Catch the jump rope under your toes and lift up your heels and let it out from underneath your feet.
You will be timed for 1 minute. Winners will have jumped the most in that one minute.
How to do the Three-Legged Race A three-legged race involves two participants attempting to complete a short sprint with the left leg of one runner strapped to the right leg of another runner. The object is for the partners to run together without falling over, and beat the other contestants to the finish line.
You will be timed by how fast you get this done with your partner.
Obstacle Course: The obstacle course will be filled with various activities. You may have to crawl, jump, run, and balance to win. Below you will find a sketch we have made of what we are hoping our obstacle course will look like. On the day of the Olympics, the course will look similar (or close to) what this sketch shows.
You will be timed. The winner is determined by who is able to complete the course in the least amount of time.
We will also have other activities available that are just for fun. These include but are not limited to.
- Soccer Tournament - Face Painting - Tug of War - Archery (with a plastic set for safety) - Walk-a-Thon
